Dr. Edward Cole has lived in Florida for 40 plus years. He was raised in Lakeland, Florida where he started working at a veterinary hospital when he was 9 years old. He graduated from Lakeland Senior High School with high honors and headed to the University of Florida where he became the youngest person accepted into the veterinary school. He graduated Summa Cum Laude. At the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine,  he met Jeanette (The other Dr. Cole) in the same class and their fondness of animals drew them together; they have been together ever since. His special veterinary interests include cardiology, surgery, dermatology, oncology ( cancer treatment), ultrasound and echocardiography.

In his spare time Dr. Ed enjoys playing volleyball at Siesta Key, Bee Ridge Park and the south sarasota YMCA, and riding bikes in the palmer ranch rails to trails. He also likes to go fishing around Casey Key, Siesta Key, Lido Key and Sarasota Bay and go camping, and scuba diving all around Florida.

Jeanette Cole, DVM

Dr. Jeanette Cole was born and raised on Long Island, New York.  She was one of seven children who found her niche as caretaker of the family pets.  Jeanette is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM).  GO GATORS!  She focuses her veterinary career on companion animals, where she attends to the needs of Sarasota's finest dogs and cats and various other furry friends.  Jeanette truly loves all aspects of veterinary care, particularly, dermatology, internal medicine, behavior medicine, and surgery.

She also enjoys yoga, spending time with her family, SCUBA, fishing in Sarasota Bay, playing in the yard with the dogs, playing board games and reading books from the Sarasota libraries. She is also active in the nursery at Sarasota Alliance Church.

After they graduated, they moved to Boston. Edward interned at the prestigious Angell Memorial Animal Hospital (Massachusetts Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and Jeanette interned at a large specialty practice on the south shore-South Shore Veterinary Associates. After several years in private practice in the Boston area they moved back to Lakeland, Florida and practiced together in the veterinary hospital where Edward worked when he was in high school. After 3 years they movGulf Gate Animal Hospital Palmer Ranch Dog Cat Care Family Vet Cliniced to Sarasota to start a new era in their lives serving the pets of Sarasota.

They are the proud parents of a cat, "Reese", and 2 miniature horses, now known as "Patches" and "Nugget", a lovely mixed breed dog, "Val", as well as many fish.  

Dr. Edward and Dr. Jeanette are proud to announce their newest endeavor, "Puppy Raising" for SouthEastern Guide Dogs! They are the happy parents of 2 adorable Yellow Laborador females named "Jellybean" and "Boots".  They will be in their care for approximately 16 months, while they learn some manners(hopefully) and house training and some basic skills.   

And, last but by all means not least, they are proud parents of two (human) "babies", Faith and Daniel .... teenagers!!  Faith graduated high school in 2022 and Daniel will graduate in 2024.

Christina Whitcomb, DVM

She attended The Ohio State University, graduating magna cum laude with a bachelors degree in agriculture, and then continued on to veterinary school where she graduated in the top of her class in 2015.  Dr. Christina spent her summers off from school working here at Gulf Gate Animal Hospital and always knew she wanted to return to Sarasota after graduation.  She enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery, including pocket pets, with a special interest in dentistry, internal medicine, nutrition, and dermatology.  Dr. Christina shares her home with her rescue dogs and her cats, who help keep her dogs in line.

When not at the clinic, she enjoys cooking, fitness and cheering on the Buckeyes and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Sarasota Vet Marcie Burn Dog Cat Veterinary Preventative Care Marcie Burn, DVM

Joining our practice in June 2018 is Dr. Marcie Burn. Dr. Marcie grew up in Charleston, SC before moving to Sarasota for her high school years.  She worked at Gulf Gate Animal Hospital while attending high school as a technician before receiving her animal science degree and veterinary degree at the University of Florida.  She has practiced on the east coast for 9 years, but decided returning to Sarasota was where her heart lies. We are excited to welcome Dr. Marcie back to our Gulf Gate Animal Hospital family.  She has schnauzers and cats at home.

In her spare time she loves traveling with friends and family.  Once a year she runs a half marathon with college friends and enjoys playing indoor and beach volleyball.  Of course during football season she roots for the Gators!
